Client:
Kent-Sussex Industries
Project:
10-minute fundraising video
Request:
We’d like a video to show at out annual fundraising banquet. We want three cries…meaning, we want to tell three stories that give people an emotional response to what we’re doing.
Time Frame:
1 month
Budget:
Moderate
Description:
Kent-Sussex Industries (KSI) employs adults with disabilities. They work with people of all backgrounds and a wide range of special needs. The work they do ranges from toner cartridge replacement to shrink wrapping pickle bottles. They have a community of people working to help integrate these with meaningful work experiences. Each year they host a fundraising banquet where this video debuted. I acted as interviewer and editor on this video…it was produced by Bill Sammons, Jr. of Watermark Productions, LLC.
Obstacles:
There is such a diverse group of people involved with KSI so it was difficult to chose which stories to share. There were some people who struggle with communication yet their life story was so compelling. We also wanted to communicate not just the perspective of the disabled adults, but also the employees working within this community.
Solutions:
We picked three very different people to communicate KSI’s work. We then added some quotes from employees and clients at the end to give the broad picture of their company. In order to communicate some of these segments, we used case-workers, employees and family members to express the details of each person’s unique story.
Favorite Elements:
I liked how we slowly revealed the person in the story a little at a time as others talked about them. The quotes at the end were very poignant. Each person’s story was quite powerful.
