Client:
Child Evangelism Fellowship

Project:
10-minute fundraising video to be used for a missionary returning home on furlough

Request:
Cindy, an old college friend of mine wanted a video she could show her supporters what she’d been doing in Fiji. Although she teaches the Bible to kids, she is a bit shy speaking in front of adults, so her hope was to communicate a lot of what she does overseas and then use it as  a springboard to answer questions and give details that the video didn’t cover.

Time Frame:
3 months

Budget:
Low

Child Evangelism Fellowship

Description:
Child Evangelism Fellowship is a Bible-centered international ministry aimed at teaching kids across the globe. Cindy worked in Fiji and was due home for her first visit in several years. She wanted a video that would help her friends, family and supporters to feel as though they visited her in Fiji…to see what she saw and experience what she did with her time and how she impacted the children in her community.

That child’s eyes and smile are still tattooed in my heart

Obstacles:
In less then ten days, I needed to capture the life of this missionary and get a handle on the unique aspects of the culture. Additionally, I was tasked with trying to discern which stories would best be communicated on the video.

Solutions:
As I asked certain questions about Fiji of the people I met, I realized the wide range of answer I would get…this gave me the idea to have the opening narration of the video be clips from lots of different kids perspectives on what Fiji is like and who lives there. From there, I discovered there were a couple of key stories that could give a broad view of what Cindy had accomplished in her ministry. I created a script a few days into the trip which became the framework of the finished video.

Favorite Element:
This was my first full project…from script-writing to shooting to editing I was responsible for every aspect of this project. It was quite a challenge, but what I learned in the process has stayed with me since. My favorite image is of this cute girl drinking from the water fountain outside of her classroom. It was in Fiji where I first learned that when I see a photographic moment through the lens, I will have it burned in my mind forever. Being able to recall a specific shot like that and know exactly how I’ll use it in the edited video is an amazing thing. That child’s eyes and smile are still tattooed in my heart.
